Aquarium Plant Considerations

Aquarium Plants
Adding color and depth to your tank is just one function of aquarium plants. In the wild, fish and sea creatures hide and school among the plants for shelter, protection and grouping purposes. Adding plants to your tank will enrich the look as well as give your fish a take of nature.

Varieties
Aquarium plants come in many shapes, sizes, colors and formats. Be sure to explore them all before making a choice. From grasses to lacy greens to blooming and colorful, aquarium plants add variety, texture and visual flow to an aquarium.

Silk Or Plastic?
Adding even more options to customize your tank is the decision of plastic foliage or silk. Plastic is traditionally more durable, but silk has more of a flowing look about it. Both options come in many colors and pairings, and can be used together so you can mix it up if you choose.

Take It Up A Notch
Don't be afraid to play with heights of plants. A variety of low, medium, and tall plants is visually pleasing by adding balance to the tank and creating depth, giving your fish more options for shelter. Feeling daring? You can even try extending your plants out of the tank.

Live Plants
Most artificial plants are actually replicas of naturally occurring plants and if you have a green thumb, you can try your hand at growing your own landscaping.

Location, Location, Location!
Once you have your plants for your tank, get a feel for where they will go in the tank and play with placement. Consider clustering a few plants of varying heights for a neat effect. Remember if you choose live plants to give them a place with plenty of light.
